Honorary Members

This page is dedicated to people who did not graduate from Cass Technical High School, but who touched the lives of so many who did.  Most of these people were faculty and staff.  It is a small group at this point, but it will surely grow as I gather more information.

ALMA STAHL
Former Cass Tech Home Economics Teacher

Career

Alma Daisy Winzer Stahl was a teacher at Cass Tech where she taught Home-Ec to many students, including Diana Ross. 

Personal
Alma was born in Farm Country, Heron Lake, MN.  After graduating from high school, she attended Stout University, WI and Graduated in 1930.  It was close to that time that there was a need for teachers in Detroit, so Alma moved to the Motor City and began teaching at an elementary school.  In 1935, Alma began her child bearing years, ending with five daughters and one son.  Once her children were of school age she then accepted the position as Home Ecomonics teacher at Cass Tech.
Today Alma continues to enjoy her 6 children, 12 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild on the way.
On March 3, 2008 Alma will be 100 years old!!!

HARRY BEGIAN
Former Cass Tech Conductor/Teacher

Dr. Harry Begian served as Director of Bands at the University of Illinois from 1970 until his retirement in 1984. He began his reputation as an outstanding conductor/teacher during his many years at Detroit's Cass Technical High School where he developed one of the finest high school bands in the country. Begian went on to become Director of Bands at Wayne State University, a position he held for three years. Following Wayne State he was appointed Director of Bands at Michigan State University, where he also stayed for three years before moving to the University of Illinois.

Dr. Begian's musical training was in the public schools of Michigan where he studied studied trumpet with Leonard Smith and flute with Larry Teal. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, and later earned his doctorate at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
